Pile on the Protein

Calorie for calorie, nothing matches the satiating power of protein, says Barbara Rolls, PhD, professor of nutritional science at Pennsylvania State University and author of The Volumetrics Eating Plan: Techniques and Recipes for Feeling Full on Fewer Calories. That's why a morning dose of skim or low-fat milk or yogurt is key—it gives your breakfast a protein boost. A hard-boiled egg can do the same. Fill Up on Fiber
Fiber takes up space in your belly without adding many calories, says Rolls. It also slows the rate at which food travels through your digestive system, she says, and that keeps you feeling full longer.

Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains all pack lots of fiber and a hefty dose of vitamins. Start your day with a bowl of oatmeal or whole grain cereal topped with fruit, add milk or yogurt, and chances are you'll make it to lunch without a trip to the vending machine.

Go Nuts!

A hormone called ghrelin stimulates appetite and makes your stomach growl, says Mehmet Oz, MD, vice chair of surgery and professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University and co-author of You on a Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management. But just a handful of nuts can cause ghrelin levels to take a dive.

Calorically, the most dangerous part of a meal eaten out is the first 10 minutes when you arrive, famished, and clean out the breadbasket, says Oz. "If you eat a few nuts 30 minutes before dinner, your hunger will drop off dramatically," he says. "By the time you sit down for the meal, you'll be able to slow down, enjoy the food, and stop before you're stuffed."
Take a Brisk Walk

Studies show that a little vigorous exercise can temporarily suppress hunger. "Before you decide to grab a snack, walk up a few stairs or stroll around the block," says Oz. You may find that you're no longer hungry. Or you might discover that you weren't hungry to begin with. "If it's anxiety or stress that was causing you to want to eat," says Oz, "exercise can help.

Even taking a few yogic breaths at your desk might be enough to unwind." Try breathing in slowly to the count of five, then exhaling for the same period of time. Repeat at least three times.

Keep Your Hands Busy

Choose a snack that slows down your eating and makes you work for the calories, says Oz, like edamame (soybeans) and pistachio nuts in the shell. And their high protein content makes them an especially satisfying choice.

Soothe your taste buds

Sometimes hunger is simply a desire to taste something, says Oz. In that case, a piece of licorice, a strong breath mint, or even a Listerine breath strip might be enough to satisfy your urge.

Believe it or not, aku ini penggemar formula 1 loh, he..he.. walopun angin-anginan, maksudnya kadang nonton kadang ga' coz kalo pas di kos, mana bisa nonton klo tipinya cuman atu, lah yang laen ga' da yang seneng nonton f1? ya terpaksa ikutin berita tundanya dari koran, berita tipi, ato internet....
Tapi emang dah lumayan lama sih, ga' maen ke formula1.com ini.

Tadinya aku penggemar Mika Hakkinen, trus David Coulthard, lah sekarang lagi Kimi Raikkonen, tapi DC masih tetep favoritku. Aku sebenernya fansnya McLarren, tapi karena Kimi pindah ke Ferrari, aku sekarang berada dalam dilema nih. Btw, aku heran, dulu Kimi di Mc Larren gagal jadi juara dunia kupikir karena mobilnya yang ga' terlalu reliable, tapi di Ferrari sekarang, eh, Mc Larren jadi keliatan bagus banget mobilnya disupirin Lewis Hamilton...

Secara ya, sampe sekarang Kimi baru dapet 52 poin dan Lewis Hamilton udah 70. Kapan ya, Kimi bakal jadi juara dunia..

Btw, jadi inget ni, dulu pas jaman SMA, ada adek kelas namanya Nur Cholis (klo ga' salah), dia mirip banget (ya' ga' banget-banget sih) sama Kimi Raikkonen. Trus aku ama temenku yang juga penggemar F1 suka melihatnya dengan cara yang bikin dia jadi salting, ha...ha... dan akhirnya, pas suatu saat pas kita mau pergi selamanya dari SMA, kita melakukan salah satu hal tergila dalam hidupku, yaitu menyuratinya, dan ngasih tau kalo dia itu mirip Kimi. U know, kalo dipikir sekarang, aku kaya nonton sinetron abg yang konyol, he..he.. tapi terpuaskan sih, rasa ingin kasih tau si Kimi palsu itu... he...he...

The Delicate Balance on Earth

The earth is a living planet where many complex systems run perfectly without stopping at all. When compared to other planets, it is evident that in all its aspects the earth is specially designed for human life. Built on delicate balances, life prevails in every spot of this planet, from the atmosphere to the depths of the earth.






exploring only a few of the millions of these delicate balances would be sufficient to show that the world we live in is specially designed for us.


One of the most important balances in our planet is revealed in the atmosphere that surrounds us. The atmosphere of the earth holds the most appropriate gasses in the most appropriate ratio needed for the survival not only of human beings, but also of all the living beings on the earth.


The 77% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% carbon dioxide as well as other gasses readily available in the atmosphere represent the ideal figures necessary for the survival of living beings. Oxygen, a gas that is vital for living beings, helps food to be burned and converted into energy in our bodies.








If the oxygen quantity in the atmosphere were greater than 21%, the cells in our body would soon start to suffer great damages. The vegetation and hydrocarbon molecules needed for life would also be destroyed. If this quantity were less, then this would cause difficulties in our respiration, and the food we eat would not be converted into energy. Therefore, the 21% oxygen in the atmosphere is the most ideal quantity determined for life.


No less than oxygen, other gasses like nitrogen and carbon dioxide are also arranged in the ideal quantity for the needs of living beings and the continuity of life. The amount of nitrogen in the atmosphere has the ideal ratio to balance the harmful and burning effects of oxygen. This ratio represents the most appropriate value required for photosynthesis, which is essential for life's energy supply on the earth. Moreover, the amount of carbon dioxide has the most appropriate value that is needed to maintain the stability of the surface temperature of the earth and to prevent heat loss especially at night time. This gas, comprising 1% of the atmosphere, covers the earth like a quilt and prevents the loss of heat to space. If this amount were greater, the temperature of the earth would increase excessively, causing climatic instability and posing a serious threat against living beings.


These proportions remain constant thanks to a perfect system. The vegetation covering the earth converts carbon dioxide to oxygen, producing 190 billion tons of oxygen every day. The proportion of other gasses is always kept constant on the earth by the help of interconnected complex systems. Life is thus sustained.




In addition to the establishment of the ideal gas mixture required for life on the earth, the mechanisms needed to preserve and maintain this order are created alongside with it. Any break in the balance, though instantaneous, or any change in the ratios even for a very short time period, would mean the total destruction of life. Yet, this does not happen. The formation of these gasses in the atmosphere just in the amount people need, and the constant preservation of these ratios indicate a planned creation.


At the same time, the earth has the ideal size in terms of magnitude to possess an atmosphere. If the mass of the earth were a little less, then its gravitational force would be insufficient and the atmosphere would be dispersed in space. If its mass were a little greater, then the gravitational force would be too much and the earth would absorb all gasses in the atmosphere. There is an incredibly high number of conditions required for the formation of an atmosphere such as the one our world currently has and all of these conditions should exist altogether to be able to talk of life.


The creation of these delicate proportions and balances in the sky is mentioned in the 7th verse of Surat ar-Rahman:


He erected heaven and established the balance. (Qur'an, 55:7)


The majority of people spend their lives without being aware of the delicate balances and subtle adjustments in the gas composition of the atmosphere, the distance of the world to the sun or the movements of planets. They are ignorant of the great significance of these balances and adjustments to their own lives. However, even a minor deviation in any one of these arrangements would create very severe problems regarding the existence and survival of humankind.


There are many other balances established on earth for the continuity of life:


For instance, if the surface gravity were stronger than its current value, the atmosphere would retain too much ammonia and methane gasses, which would mean the end of life. If it were weaker, the planet's atmosphere would lose too much water, and life on earth would be impossible.


The thickness of the earth's crust constitutes another one of the delicate balances in the earth. If the earth's crust were thicker, too much oxygen would be transferred from the atmosphere to the crust and this would have severe effects on human life.


If the opposite were true, that is, if the earth's crust were thinner, volcanic and tectonic activity would be too great to permit life on earth.


Another crucial balance for human life is the ozone level in the atmosphere. If it were greater than its current value, the surface temperatures would be too low. If it were less, surface temperatures would be too high, and there would be too much ultraviolet radiation at the surface.


In fact, the absence of even a single of these balances would set the end to life on earth. However, Allah has created the universe with infinite wisdom and power and designed the earth specially for human life. Despite this fact, the majority of people lead their lives in total ignorance of these events. In the Qur'an, Allah reminds people of His blessings in the 13th verse of Surat al-Fatir:


(Allah) makes night merge into day and day merge into night, and He has made the sun and moon subservient, each one running until a specified time. That is Allah, your Lord. The Kingdom is His. Those you call on besides Him have no power over even the smallest speck. (Qur'an, 35:13)


It is sufficient look at millions of dead planets in space in order to understand that the delicate balances required for life on earth is not a result of random coincidences. The conditions essential for life are too complicated to have been formed 'on their own' and at random, and these conditions are specially created for life alone.


These balances we have briefly described so far are only a few of the millions of intricate, interrelated balances and orders established so that people can live in peace and safety on the earth.


Examining only a part of the balances and harmony on the earth is enough to comprehend the superior being of Allah and grasp the existence of a planned creation in every detail of the universe. It is no doubt impossible for a person or any other living being to build such an enormous balance and order. Nor are the components of this order such as atoms, elements, molecules, and gasses capable of establishing an order based on such intricate and extremely delicate calculations and measurements, and such fine tunings. This is because activities like planning, ordering, arranging, calculating, and proportioning can only be realized by beings that possess wisdom, knowledge and power. The Exalted Being Who orders, plans and balances the entire universe to be fit for life of human beings on a planet like earth and Who sustains it with dramatically delicate measures and balances is Allah, Who has Infinite Wisdom, Knowledge and Power.


In the Qur'an, it is stated that those people who are able to realize these facts are only 'people with intelligence':


In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are Signs for people with intelligence: those who remember Allah, standing, sitting and lying on their sides, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth: "Our Lord, You have not created this for nothing. Deklarasi perubahan iklim

Para politisi dan ilmuwan dunia di Washington, telah mencapai kesepakatan baru dalam mengatasi perubahan iklim.
Delegasi dari sejumlah negara berharap negara-negara berkembang akan mencapai target dalam mengurangi gas efek rumah kaca, sama seperti negara-negara maju.
Pertemuan ini juga sepakat bahwa pasar global dunia harus ditentukan batas emisinya maupun melakukan barter untuk menyeimbangkan buangan emisi dunia.
Para wartawan mengatakan walau pertemuan Washington bukan pertemuan resmi dan deklarasinya tidak mengikat, tetap saja dilihat amat penting untuk mengganti Traktat Kyoto.
Pernyataan akhir dari forum ini adalah perubahan iklim yang disebabkan oleh manusia sudah 'tidak diragukan lagi.'
"Perubahan iklim merupakan masalah global dan adalah kewajiban kita semua untuk bertindak, sesuai dengan kemampuan dan tanggung-jawab sejarah masing-masing," seperti tulis dalam deklarasi Organisasi Penyusun Undang-undang Global untuk Keseimbangan Lingkungan.





Meningkatkan semangat
Pertemuan selama 2 hari di Washington ini diikuti oleh negara G8 dan beberapa kekuatan ekonomi baru, seperti Brasil, Cina, India, Meksiko, dan Afrika Selatan.
Wartawan urusan Lingkungan BBC, Roger Harrabin, yang meliput pertemuan mengatakan deklarasi ini memang tidak punya kekuatan mengikat, namun meningkatkan semangat dalam memerangi pemanasan global.
Para delegasi sepakat bahwa negara-negara berkembang juga harus memenuhi target buangan emisi sama dengan negara-negara maju lainnya.
Mereka mengatakan ingin menggantikan Traktat Kyoto yang akan habis masa berlakunya pada tahun 2012.
Senator Amerika Serikat, Joe Lieberman, mengatakan Kongres Amerika akan menyusun Undang-undang untuk memotong buangan emisi pada akhir tahun ini.
Dan salah seorang politisi yang ingin mencalonkan diri dalam pemilihan presiden Amerika, John McCain, mendukung prakarsa baru ini.
"Saya yakin bahwa kita telah mencapai titik puncak dan Kongres Amerika Serikat akan bertindak" katanya saat menyampaikan pidato di depan forum ini.





Faktor ekonomi
Bagaimanapun Dr. John Holdren, Ketua Assosiasi Kemajuan Ilmun Pengetahuan Amerika, mengkuatirkan posisi Presiden George Bush yang ingin agar perekonomian Amerika tidak akan menderita jika buangan emisi ditetapkan.
"Namun dampak ekonomi jika tidak menangani perubahan iklim sebenarnya lebih besar dari biaya untuk menanganinya," tambahnya.
Sementara itu parlemen Kanada sudah mendesak pemerintahnya untuk memenuhi pengurangan emisi sesuai dengan Traktat Kyoto.
Partai Konservatif yang memerintah di Kanada mengatakan target yang ditetapkan tahun 1990, yaitu pengurangan 6% pada masa 2008-2012, tidak mungkin dicapai.

Alien Life May Be "Weirder" Than Scientists Think, Report Says

Think life on Earth is weird? It might be even weirder on distant planets and moons, according to a new report.

Instead of thriving on water, extraterrestrial organisms might live in a sea of liquid methane. Or instead of getting energy from the sun, they might thrive on hydrochloric acid.

These possibilities could revolutionize future space missions in search of life elsewhere in the solar system, says the report, issued today by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS).

The report concludes that scientists need to consider an expanded list of characteristics that define life, including so-called "weird" life-forms that may thrive where Earth organisms couldn't.

Instead of dispatching spacecraft to dig into the subsurface of Mars, considered a prime candidate for primitive life because of its watery past, the report says the probes may have better luck on Saturn's moon Titan, which has seas of liquid methane and ethane.

In fact, the report concluded that Titan is the most likely candidate in the solar system for weird life. "It's a carbon world, so there's plenty of different kinds of carbon compounds there, and the possibility is that there may be the carbon compounds that make up life," said John Baross, an oceanographer at Seattle's University of Washington, who lead the report team.


Different Life
Baross chaired the committee that prepared the report released by the National Research Council, an arm of the NAS. The report probes the question: How might life on distant worlds be different than life on Earth? "We don't want to not recognize a life form because it doesn't exactly resemble Earth life," Baross said.

All life on Earth studied to date has certain characteristics and needs: water, carbon-based metabolism, a chemical- or light-based energy source, and the ability to evolve. Since these characteristics make life on Earth possible, scientists have long assumed they are required for life elsewhere in the universe.

But advances in biology and biochemistry in the last decade show that the basic requirements for life may not be so concrete, according to Baross. Seth Shostak is a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, which is dedicated to the search for alien life. He was not part of the report but said the premise is "very justified." For example, he said, the Viking lander missions to Mars in the 1970s were controversial, because although they did not find life, they only looked for Earthlike life. "Let's be a little more broad-minded. Let's not just look for life as we know it," Shostak said. "The only problem," he added, "is it's very difficult to look for life as you don't know it, because you don't know how to look for it. I think that's what motivates this study."

Weird Life
According to the report, the search for life elsewhere in the solar system and beyond should include efforts to detect "weird" forms of life.

For example, laboratory experiments have recently demonstrated that scientists can change the DNA of Earth organisms, which then continue to encode the new genetic information.

The findings suggest that "a different life-form doesn't necessarily have to have exactly the same chemistry that Earth life has," Baross said.

Even weirder life, he said, may tap into different sources of energy than the sun, which most Earth organisms depend upon. Perhaps most intriguing, Baross continued, is the possibility that extraterrestrial life could thrive on a solvent other than water, such as the liquid methane and ethane on Titan. "Could a carbon-based life-form survive and live in that?" Baross said. "That's pretty much an unknown to Earth life."


Finding Weird Life
The hunt for weird life on other planets and moons begins with studying life on Earth, Baross explained. For example, one of the biggest unanswered questions about Earth life is how it originated. "What comes out of this report is that there's so much about Earth life that we don't understand," Baross said.

This is especially true about life forms that exist in extreme environments like arid deserts, high-altitude lakes, and snuggled up against boiling deep-sea vents.
"The possibility exists that there are still organisms that can tell us something about early life and even possibly the origin of life that we haven't really tapped into," Baross said.

Failure is Impossible

Hari ini banyak posting ne...

Aku pernah ikut seminar tentang pemberdayaan kemampuan otak. Pembicaranya Pak Bambang (lengkapnya lupa).

Dari dulu sih aku percaya, klo semua potensi kita bisa digali dengan mengaktifkan otak bawah sadar. Coz pas lagi melakukan sesuatu yang susah buatku, aku suka melakukan self talk (aku baru tau namanya setelah ikut seminar itu), memberikan motivasi buat diriku sendiri. Seringnya sih pas pelajaran olahraga, pas disuruh lari jauuuuuuuh banget. Pas di tengah jalan udah mau pingsan, aku ngomong ke diriku sendiri "boleh pingsan klo udah ngelewatin pohon di depan..." setelah sampe di pohon depan, "satu pohon lagi...." gitu terus (untung banyak pohon) sampe akhirnya sampe di sekolah lagi deh... he...he...

Ato pas harus bangun pagiiii, malemnya suka ngomong sendiri "besok bangun jam 4 pagi.." Eh, besoknya bener-bener bangun, malah jam 4 kurang.

Kata pak Bambang itu, 'Failure is Impossible'. Kegagalan itu tidak mungkin. Semua bisa kita lakukan, asal mau berusaha. Kata pak Bambang, memotivasi pikiran itu namanya 'mind set'.

Sekarang aku lagi menjajal kemampuanku melakukan self healing (udah sering baca di buku-buku kesehatan, kayanya asik..). Ga' sah pake minum obat (untung, karena aku ga' suka obat).
Pas suatu ketika aku kena flu dan demam, pas mau tidur malem aku relaksasi (tau dari buku yoga), trus ngomong ke diriku sendiri kalo aku akan sehat besok pagi. Besoknya belum sembuh sih, tapi demamnya udah turun, trus besoknya sembuh deh... Asik kan?

Udah kupraktekkin juga di yoga. Lama aku belum bisa nyium lututku sendiri. Terus aku merem dan membayangkan klo aku bisa nyium lututku sendiri. Pas aku praktekkin, ternyata emang bisa, walopun pertama2 sakit dan cuma bisa sebentar....

Jadi sekarang aku ga' heran lagi liat Deddy Cobuzier (bener ga' sih tulisannya) bisa bengkokkin sendok, nebak headline koran, liat dengan mata ditutup, jalan mendaki gedung...

Ternyata semuanya emang bisa asal kita mau.

Btw, mind set itu paling bagus dilakukan pas 2/3 malam, coz pas waktu itu semua orang lagi dalam kondisi alpha (gelombang alam bawah sadar). Ternyata (lagi) shalat Tahajud itu emang bagus buat kita kan? Bahkan semua shalat (yang khusyuk) harusnya merupakan pembuka bagi pikiran bawah sadar kita, tempat kita bisa membangkitkan kemampuan-kemampuan yang sebelumnya kita pikir kalo kita ga' punya. Tulang Belulang.....

Ini bukan cerita horor tentang korban pembunuhan yang udah membusuk dan ditemukan tinggal tulang belulang....

Cuman mau cerita tentang tulang punggungku yang tanpa kusadari ternyata bertumbuh di luar ketentuan (bukannya jadi bercabang 2 sih)

Ceritanya, pas waktu mulai kuliah kira-kira 3 tahun lalu, suka sakit punggung di bagian bawah. Kalo pas nunduk atu ruku pas sholat, sakitnya terasa banget. Ga' sakit setiap saat sih, tapi sering aja sakit gitu...

Akhirnya pas mudik ke Tegal dibawa Ibu ke RS. Trus dikasih fisioterapi (ga' dirontgen). Sama yang terapi dikasih tau klo tulangku bengkok ke kanan (skoliosis). Pertama denger sih agak heran juga. Tapi setelah diperhatikan emang pinggang kanan lebih lurus dari yang kiri. Aneh juga selama ini aku ga' ngerasa.

Habis itu liburan di Jakarta, sama BuDe, diajak periksa lagi ke RS Mitra. Pas disitu dikasih dokter spesialis Ortopedi, suruh rontgen, trus baru deh ketauan klo tulangku emang bengkok 25 derajat ke kanan. Sedih deh rasanya. Emang sih selama ini kurang suka olahraga.
Trus disuruh pake penyangga yang seluruh badan, tapi aku ga' mau coz mahal, lagian makenya di luar baju... Di rumah tiap hari disuruh melakukan beberapa gerakan khusus buat mencegah tulangku +bengkok.

Pernah baca di internet juga, skoliosis itu bisa menyebabkan kematian karena paru-paru yang menyempit (Oh No...), trus susah melahirkan (hiks....hiks...)

Suatu hari (kaya' dongeng aja ni), aku baca di majalah, ada pelatih yoga yang dulunya kena skoliosis sampe 45 derajat, tapi sembuh karena yoga. Aku jadi tertarik belajar yoga, apalagi aku ga' bisa berenang (olahraga yang dianjurkan dokter). Trus aku beli buku Dasar-dasar Yoga, dan mulai belajar dari buku. Harusnya sih pake instruktur, tapi di Semarang aku ga' tau tempatnya. Sampe sekarang udah jalan kira-kira 6 bulan, aku ga' pernah sakit punggung lagi... seneng deh...

Hampir semua gerakan di bukunya juga aku udah bisa. Yang aku baca di majalah, pelatih yoga itu sembuh karena terus-menerus melatih posisi halasana / bajak. Aku baru bisa gerakan ini kira-kira sebulan lalu, coz agak susah. Sakit juga (tapi kata yang di majalah itu juga sakit kok, jadi ga' salah)

Ternyata, dari yoga, bukan cuman sakit punggung aja yang ilang. Aku jadi lebih berpikir positif, optimis, n konsentrasi juga....

Well, walopun misalnya punggungku ga' bisa lurus lagi, tapi kata dokter juga asal kuat ga' masalah.... Baca Selanjutnya... (Read More...)

Belajar Banyak...

Blog ini sebenernya 'pelarian' dari proyek bikin website yang seperempat gagal... Dibilang seperempat gagal, soalnya, gagalnya karena faktor 'x' yang bener-bener bikin kesel ati. Mulai dari desainnya, sampe detail-detailnya, kupikir sih, just perfect lah..
Masalahnya pas bagian upload ke jejaring jagat jembar ini... Web hostingnya (ifastnet) ngaco, SQL nya ga' jalan... Mungkin karena gratisan kali ye.. jadi ngelayaninnya juga setengah ati.. Jadi sampe sekarang web ku itu nasibnya terkatung-katung dah, di dunia 0101.
Dan akhirnya kuputuskan untuk pake web hosting yang ga' gratis, yah, biar skalian keliatan agak bonafide gitu, he..he.. tapi sampe sekarang belum sempet terlaksana karena terhalang berbagai ini itu tetek bengek yang terjadi tiap hari. Apalagi waktunya ngenet terbatas.. Maklum anak kos, he..he... (padahal pas upload bisa makan waktu lamaaaaaa....)

Well, itulah sejarah mula-mula aku mulai tertarik sama blog. Sebenernya sih dipicu demam blog di tempat kos, trus beli buku bikin blog dan mulai utak-atik. Sebenernya sih akun di blogger juga udah lumayan lama.... Dan karena lama itu aku jadi lupa passwordnya, trus bikin akun lagi. Sampe punya 3 blog di blogger, yang semuanya cuman diposting 1x, he..he.. akhirnya yang terakhir ini, aku inget passwordnya, jadi bisa log ini dengan selamat dah, he..he...
Tapi rasanya belum puas nih, blognya cuman gini-gini ajah... Kayanya perlu belajar banyak lagi nih, coz kalo dibandingin sama blog-blog laen, yang ini mah kayanya so usual deh... Baca Selanjutnya... (Read More...)

He..he... judulnya norak yak?
cuman seneng aja, coz akhirnya blog ku bisa ada 'sesuatu' nya. ternyata ga susah juga nambah2in hiasan-hiasan di blog... seneng deh..
